Exotic Tropical Fruit Of The Week: Chayote Part 2

Chayote, also known as choko, xuxu, chayote squash, custard marrow, and others. Chayote is a fruit, but it is eaten as a vegetable in soups, stews, and salads. It is outstandingly delicious, and healthy.

Chayote is an excellent source of folate, a nutrient required for proper fetal development. Therefore, the squash may have appeal for women who are pregnant or trying to become so.

Exotic Tropical Plate Of The Week: The Original CAESAR SALAD

Caesar Salad Was Invented in Tijuana, Mexico by…

Caesar Cardini had originally operated a restaurant in San Diego, California, but relocated to Tijuana, Mexico with the advent of Prohibition.  Like many restaurateurs, Cardini believed that a fine meal in the town required cocktails before dinner and wine with dinner.  In Tijuana, he could offer both.

THE AUTHENTIC CAESAR SALAD

Original Caesar Salad Table-Side Prepared

INGREDIENTS

  • 1 romaine lettuce, split into leaves (discard the outermost leaves)
  • 1 egg (see notes)
  • Juice of 1 lime
  • 2 tsp Dijon mustard
  • 6 anchovy fillets, minced
  • 1 clove garlic, minced
  • 1 tsp Worcestershire sauce
  • Freshly ground black pepper
  • 125ml high-grade extra-virgin olive oil
  • 30g parmesan, finely grated
  • 2 baguette slices, toasted

The Original Caesar’s Restaurant in Tijuana in 1927

According to Caesar’s daughter Rosa, her father invented the salad when a Fourth of July 1924 rush depleted the kitchen’s supplies. Cardini made do with what he had, adding the dramatic flair of the table-side tossing “by the chef.”  Caesar salad is the most spectacular salad in the world!

3 Most Delicious Hot Dogs in the World … Oh Yeah!

Originally called frankfurters, their origin can be traced back to 1852 in Frankfurt, Germany. From the start, frankfurters were basically small sausages.

GERMAN STYLE

Today, some are made entirely of one type of meat, such as beef, pork, chicken, or turkey. There are even vegetarian hot dogs that contain no meat at all. Many hot dogs, however, are more like traditional sausages, because they are made from a secret recipe containing a mixture of a variety of ingredients.

NEW YORK STYLE

Although there are as many special recipes out there, most of them consist of a similar set of ingredients. These include meat, meat fat, filler (such as flour or bread crumbs), egg whites, and spices. Some popular spices include salt, pepper, onion, and garlic.

FryDay Delicious Messy Fun Food: Waffles With Chicken And Cheese – Have A Great Weekend!

Okay, nobody said that this was going to be a food healthy post. If you exercise during the week, burn a ton of calories, and you have your cholesterol and triglycerides within perfect normal limits, once a week you can treat yourself with something like this. I know I do. Otherwise, I would get bored of eating healthy food 365 days a year. But that is me. I have a friend that no way Jose would eat this food, ever, ever never, hahaha. I will eat my waffles and she will be eating carrots and celery. She doesn’t exercise though, not at all. She is vegan and lacking some vitamins and minerals in her last full check-up.

Exotic Tropical Fruit Of The Week: Tamarillo Or Tree Tomato

You can eat this healthy, exotic and tropical South African native fruit in salads, juices, stews, roasted, in bread, or simply, cut them in half and eat them fresh. Your choice. But I guarantee you that you will love this fruit any way you decide to eat it.

Red Tamarillo Salad With Basil

It is South American native but you can grow it in your back yard from seed or a small plant bought in a nursery in your area.

Tamarillo Juice…Yummy!

It is a small-growing shrub or semi-woody tree reaching heights between 10-18 feet (3-5.5 mts.).

Tamarillo trees bloom in early spring, producing fragrant pink flowers. These blooms will eventually give way to small, oval or egg-shaped fruit, reminiscent of plum tomatoes—hence the tomato tree’s name.

  • 1 13 oz can Coconut milk
  • 2 tbsp Thai red curry paste
  • 4 cups Vegetable or chicken broth
  • 1/2 tbsp Fish sauce

  • 3 1/2 oz Rice vermicelli noodles
  • 1/2 tbsp Brown sugar
  • 2 tbsp Neutral cooking oil

INSTRUCTIONS

thai curry soup cooking eating healthy vegetables dr martha castro noriega mexico
  • Prepare the vegetables for the soup and garnishes first, so they’re ready to go when needed. Mince the garlic and grate the ginger using a small-holed cheese grater. Peel and dice the sweet potato into one-inch cubes. Wash the bok choy well, then chop into one-inch strips, separating the fibrous stalks from the delicate green ends. Thinly slice the red onion and roughly chop the cilantro.
  • Add the cooking oil to a large soup pot along with the minced garlic, grated ginger, and Thai red curry paste. Sauté the garlic, ginger, and curry paste over medium heat for 1-2 minutes.
  • Add the diced sweet potato and chopped bok choy stalks to the pot (save the leafy green ends for later) along with the chicken or vegetable broth. Bring the pot to a boil over medium-high heat, then reduce the heat to low and let simmer for 5-7 minutes, or until the sweet potatoes are tender.
  • While the soup is simmering, bring a small pot of water to a boil for the vermicelli. Once boiling, add the vermicelli and boil for 2-3 minutes, or just until tender. Drain the rice noodles in a colander and set aside.
  • Once the sweet potatoes are tender, add the coconut milk, fish sauce, and brown sugar to the soup. Stir, taste, and adjust the fish sauce or brown sugar if needed. Finally, add the bok choy greens and let them wilt in the hot soup.
  • To serve, divide the rice vermicelli among four bowls. Ladle the soup and vegetables over the noodles, then top with red onion, cilantro, a wedge or two of lime, and a drizzle of sriracha.
