You can eat this healthy, exotic and tropical South African native fruit in salads, juices, stews, roasted, in bread, or simply, cut them in half and eat them fresh. Your choice. But I guarantee you that you will love this fruit any way you decide to eat it.
Red Tamarillo Salad With Basil

It is South American native but you can grow it in your back yard from seed or a small plant bought in a nursery in your area.
Tamarillo Juice…Yummy!

It is a small-growing shrub or semi-woody tree reaching heights between 10-18 feet (3-5.5 mts.).

Tamarillo trees bloom in early spring, producing fragrant pink flowers. These blooms will eventually give way to small, oval or egg-shaped fruit, reminiscent of plum tomatoes—hence the tomato tree’s name.

Tamarillo sounds enticing. I will try and source it in the UK thanks. Your recipes look delicious, so if I cannot get the tamarillo, I will try with plum tomatoes.

Great idea, about using plum tomatoes if one can’t find tree tomatoes. Thank you so much for this idea.

Yummy looking, especially to us in the dregs of Winter with no fresh produce for months to come.

OMG…no fresh produce for months to come? I hope you are ok. Is it that normal where you live in this time of the year?

Yes, we do get some fresh produce Martha, but it is often not produce flown in at its peak, like our strawberries are more yellow than red and really tasteless. What I love in Winter is the clementines. Soon they will no longer be carrying them (just November through March here in Michigan).
